What happens when women entrepreneurs across the developing world are given a real chance to grow their businesses? Cherie Blair decided to find out.
In 2008, Blair, wife of Tony Blair, former prime minister of the UK, launched the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women to help women entrepreneurs in the developing world move their businesses into the formal economy. To do that, it launched the Road to Women’s Business Growth education initiative, which is supported by the ExxonMobil Foundation. Participants – who are all women business owners – learn essential business skills, including cash flow management and basic accounting. The goal is that the extra financial acumen will help them grow their business to the next level.
