It’s in this garage where technologists and engineers develop next-generation solutions for today’s energy workers.
Located within the company’s Houston campus, the garage is outfitted with the latest in virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR), wearable technologies, internet of things (IoT) devices and more.
Inspiration for these technologies comes directly from the operators and engineers at manufacturing sites across the globe. Their needs, from quickly communicating with one another to safely training for situations in the field, shape much of the work in the garage.
Immersive technology architects Kyle Daughtry and Athicha “M” Dhanormchitphong are taking field training to the next level, using VR to give employees a chance to “experience” and practice reacting to scenarios they might encounter on the job. And emerging technologist Eric Johnston explores wearable gear and hands-free computing. These tools connect to sensors throughout refineries and share the data they capture with the wearer.
And that’s just scratching the surface. Come into the garage and see for yourself.
